ABOUT US
Our Story
Run by passionate community based volunteers, the EAT Cafe Mylor is a response to the global goal initiative developed by food and environmental scientists and UN member countries.
Critical to the future of our planet and our civilisation is an urgent and radical transformation of the global food system. Food production is the single effective lever for human health and environmental sustainability on Earth.
Current food production is the major driver of environmental degradation worldwide, dominates 40% of the Earth's land surface, is the principle cause of deforestation and global diversity loss, is the biggest consumer and polluter of the world's water resources, and causes 25% of world greenhouse gas emissions- the same as electricity.
Transformation to planet and human healthy diets by 2050 will require substantial dietary shifts. Global consumption of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes will have to double, and consumption of foods such as red meat and sugar will have to be reduced by more than 50%. A diet rich in plant-based foods and with fewer animal-source foods confers both improved health and environmental benefits.
Current food systems are a major cause of human health failure. One third of the world faces crippling under-nutrition, while millions of people suffer obesity, diabetes and heart disease linked to unhealthy diets. (Data from EAT-Lancet, 2020).
