OUR GLOBAL NEIGHBOURS

Proceeds from the EAT cafe support people who desperately need help - like our global neighbours below. Funds raised go directly to the front line- there are no salaries of administration costs- every time you buy from the opshop or have a cup of coffee at the EAT cafe you're directly supporting our neighbours in need

FRED HOLLOWS FOUNDATION - GLOBAL EYE HEALTH

In the late 60s, Fred was asked to see two senior Aboriginal men from Wattie Creek in the NT. They had eye problems Fred had never seen before. In fact, they had eye problems that doctors at that time thought were exclusive to Africa- never seen in Australia. Many of the 36 million people in the world who are blind, don't have to be. Cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and trachoma are treatable- $25 is often all it takes.

OBSTETRIC FISTULA IN AFRICA

One of the most devastating and serious childbirth injuries in third world countries. Prolonged labour causes 'holes' in the bladder and / or rectum which then leads to the sufferer being isolated from her family and community. Child brides with immature bodies are most at risk. Each year between 50,000 to 100,000 women are affected by this wrenching condition but fewer than 20,000 corrective surgeries occur annually
